WHEN?

June 2021

TIPS

PRACTICAL:

  • There are buses to go to the airport from the Palma City Center. There are also buses to go to the North of the island from the airport.

  • For the flight back, there are Covid tests at the airport directly, you just need to book here.

WHERE TO STAY?

  • Pollença or Alcudia or Can Picafort: nice and huge beach (Platja Muro) but really touristic

  • Palma: the most touristic

  • North West (around Soller): no beaches but adorable “callas” and a great region for hiking

  • East: Nice callas but no big beaches and no mountains

WHERE TO EAT?

Can Picafort:

  • La Santa: Great spot! Delicious food, veggie options, great decor, by the beach, feet in the send, great staff

  • Mar y Paz: super nice spot with a bar overlooking the ocean and with a pool. Vegetarian options: burger, salad, paella!

  • Nusa Dua Beach club: a typical touristic spot in the touristic area BUT nice decor, super nice staff, good food, and veggie options

  • Bananas Son Baulo: Great spot, right on the beach and a bit less touristy. Ok food. Really nice staff. Good house wine and sangria. Ok paella, veggie option

  • Can Gavella: Great spot! Really good food, veggie options, great decor, by the beach, feet in the send, great staff

  • Marisc Bistro: Nice spot and great option for breakfast! Good prices.

  • Bei Op & Oma: I did not go but it looked great and super nice decor

Soller:

Nice spot, nice personnel, good food. The goat cheese salad and tapas were really good. They do their own “agua con gas” so no plastic!

Port de Soller:

All along the beach, there are many restaurants. I spotted:

Pollença:

  • El Imperial: cute decor for the area. Great choice of tapas and big portions! Veggie options and all we took was really good.

Betlem:

  • Casablanca: super beautiful view, good food, nice staff, good prices

Mirador de La Victoria:

  • the restaurant has the same name as the place: Beautiful spot, good food but more pricey than the average in Mallorca.

WHAT TO EXPLORE:

Soller:

  • A gorgeous village, a must-go.

  • A lot of restaurants in from of the cathedral

  • There is a small train you can take to go to the port and explore around!

  • Idea to take a boat from Deia or Soler o Sa Callobra

Port de Soller:

Nice but touristic. Good to have a break and a lot of restaurant options. See the hiking section in this blog, there is a nice 6km route starting from there.

Fortnalux & Biniaraix:

Two adorable villages around Soller. Have a look at the Hiking section below, there is a nice 6km walk through those 3 villages!

Alcudia:

  • Long beach but touristic

  • There is a nice section, Platja de Muro, especially if you go closer to the Forest and the dunes. Nice walk in the forest.

Formentor beach:

Just gorgeous, highly recommend. The road there is not the easiest but worth it. On the way, stop at Mirador es Colomer, breathtaking views!

Pollença:

Cute port/city even if touristic. Nice location in between the mountains and the long beaches.

THE BEST PLATJAS:

Platja des Caló: Maybe my favorite beach here… it is breathtaking. The turquoise water and the mountains around are gorgeous. Also the way there is a 3km beautiful walk.

Platja de Muro: What a beach. The view is great, the water is translucent. Super touristic, so go closer to the “forest/dunes” for more space. Great to swim.

Platja des Coll Baix: what a spot! BUT it is a “good walk” to go there, a proper hike for 1.5km, take your sports shoes ideally. The sun hides around 6pm so do not go too late.

Cala Torta: I did not go but my friends did and say it is gorgeous, even if the drive there is really bumpy

WHAT HIKES TO CHOOSE?

Sóller - Fortnalux - Biniaraix:

  • Try to park outside of the city center because the streets inside are super narrow

  • Super easy hike, gorgeous walk across the 3 villages, great views over the mountains

Far de Cap Gros - Platja d'en Repric vía GR 221

  • Park near Platja des so when you are done you can jump in the water!

  • Beautiful and easy hike, great views on Port Soller, then you go to the Faro, then you cross beautiful pine forests and olive trees areas.

Punta d'es Caló

  • INSANE, seriously. Super easy walk/hike and breathtaking views. The color of the water is insane. Gorgeous swim at the end.

Ses Tres Creus - Penya des Migdia - Puig del Romaní - Platja Coll Baix

  • What a hike! Especially the section around Penya des Migdia (btw the section is in and out and not a loop as written on the plan!). Do not hesitate to do to the very top, it is gorgeous.

  • If you go during the day on a sunny day, it can get really hot so take a lot of water.

  • You can start from the restaurant as they mark it in AllTrails, OR you park next to the beach and end up at the beach, that’s what I would recommend and you could even do that and have lunch at Mirador de la Victoria, there is a beautiful restaurant, a bit pricey but you pay the spot.

Mirador Penya del Migdia:

If you park at Mirador de Victoria, it is a beautiful 6km hike (3+3) and the views are insane. Don’t hesitate to go to the top, look for the blue dots haha

Around FORMENTOR you will also find a lot of hikes, have a look on All Trails.

WHAT ABOUT DIVING?

Mallorca is a good spot for diving! We went with TRAMUNTANA DIVING in Pollença and it was a great experience. The team is adorable (it’s actually a group of friends who created the center) and passionate. Grace, one of the owners, is glowing positive energy.

The boat ride to the diving spots is gorgeous too. We went to “The legde” (35m, 45min, saw red corals and a grouper) and to the “Jeronimo Cave” (beautiful, you can resurface in the cave and then the color of the water is beautiful with the light coming from bellow)

ISN’T ALSO A SUPER FAMOUS CYCLING SPOT?

It is! 3 years ago I went to Mallorca for a full week of cycling, a minimum of 100k a day, and we never got bored! We stayed in Alcudia and did all the north/north-east region. Unfortunately, I do not have the planning anymore but have a look online. I highly recommend the Sa Calobra climb. Also, easy to rent bikes and to find all the equipment around Alcudia.
